Warriors win five-straight Pacific Division crowns for 1st time in franchise history

For the fifth year in a row, the Golden State Warriors are the Pacific Division champions — a feat that they’ve accomplished every season since Steve Kerr became the head coach of the franchise.

The Warriors were able to clinch the division title with their win over the Charlotte Hornets moving them out of a tie with the Phoenix Suns for the second most Pacific Division titles since the 1970-71 NBA season.

The Los Angeles Lakers are the only other team to claim five-straight Pacific Division titles and have 23 in franchise history compared to the Warriors seven.

Kerr is only the second coach in NBA history to win division titles in each of his first five seasons as a head coach, ex-Lakers head coach Pat Riley was the first.

Along with the division titles, the Warriors are looking to become the first team since the Lakers to win three consecutive NBA titles, and are putting themselves in prime position to do so. Golden State will host the Denver Nuggets tonight, and a win would likely seal the top seed in the Western Conference, giving them homecourt throughout what will likely be a daunting Western Conference postseason gauntlet.

It’s been a historic run for these Warriors. Despite all of the noise surrounding this team, they’ve still managed to maintain a level of consistency that we’ve rarely seen in the NBA.
