Warriors trade Bogut to Mavericks

OAKLAND, Calif. _ In a move made necessary by their signing of Kevin Durant, the Warriors announced Thursday morning that they had traded center Andrew Bogut to the Dallas Mavericks.

According to mavs.com, the Warriors also gave up a future second-round pick and will receive a conditional second-rounder. The mavs.com story did not say in what year the second-rounders would be exchanged, but Dallas is expected to receive its pick in the 2019 draft.

"Andrew played a vital role in our success as a team the last several seasons," Warriors general manager Bob Myers said in a release. "His unique skill set on both ends of the floor enabled our team _ and his teammates in particular _ to thrive. We thank him for his contributions and wish him the best of luck in Dallas."

Bogut's $12 million salary for 2016 had to be moved to create salary cap space for Durant's maximum contract deal.

Bogut, a former No. 1 overall pick of the Milwaukee Bucks in 2005, came to the Warriors in a 2012 trade that rocked the Warriors fan base when they shipped away Monta Ellis.

Bogut was injured at the time and didn't appear in a game that season and only played 32 the following year. He was also injured late in the 2013-14 season and missed the first-round playoff series loss to the Clippers with a fracture rib.

He stayed relatively healthy the past two years, even playing 70 games last season _ his most since 2007-08. But he injured his knee in Game 5 of the NBA Finals and missed the rest of his series.

Still, his tenure that began with fans revolting against owner Joe Lacob for trading the popular Ellis, was a positive one as that move allowed Stephen Curry to thrive as the team's point guard and leader and Bogut provided a presence at center the team lacked. He earned Second Team All- Defensive honors for the Warriors during their 2014-15 championship season.

In his four seasons with the Warriors, Bogut averaged 6.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.7 blocks per game.
