Warriors superstar Kevin Durant will have MRI in New York

ESPN senior writer Nick Friedell reported Tuesday night that Golden State Warriors superstar Kevin Durant will have an MRI on his injured Achilles in New York. The rest of the Warriors returned to Oakland after their Game 5 win in Toronto to prepare for Thursday’s Game 6 at Oracle Arena.

The Warriors believe Kevin Durant suffered a torn Achilles and expect the MRI to confirm initial findings. The Achilles injury is to Durant’s right leg; he had missed much of the postseason because of a calf strain on the same leg.

The Warriors organization seemed shocked at the devastating outcome of Durant’s return to the court. The team previously stated they were informed by medical staff that Durant would not suffer further damage to the calf if he played.

In a tearful postgame presser Monday night, Warriors general manager Bob Myers explained:

It’s an Achilles injury. I don’t know the extent of it. He’ll have an MRI [Tuesday]. Prior to coming back, he went through four weeks with a medical team, and it was thorough, and it was experts and multiple MRIs and multiple doctors, and we felt good about the process.

Now, Durant is likely lost for the 2019-20 season with a rough rehab process ahead. The Warriors are expected to announce the results of the MRI on Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.
