NEW YORK _ Steve Kerr has a Warriors game to coach. That's never going to stop him from speaking out on issues, though.
Kerr acknowledged he has felt "a little bit" fearful for his safety with a Florida man being arrested and charged on Friday with sending mail bombs to various public figures.
"We all should be concerned no matter who you are," Kerr said before the Warriors (4-1) played the Knicks (1-4) on Friday. "You need to be concerned, not just with the bombs, but somebody shooting you. It's the country we live in these days, innocent people get killed and innocent people get shot. It's a dangerous time to be alive right now."
All NBA teams, including the Warriors, have hired security around them during practices, games and public appearances. Have Kerr and the Warriors taken any extra measures to make sure they are not targets?
"Maybe I should," Kerr said.
The Florida man was charged with sending at least 13 explosive devices addressed to various public figures critical of President Donald Trump, including former President Barack Obama, former Vice President Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton, New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker and former National Intelligence Director James Clapper.
"It's really sad," Kerr said. "It kind of speaks to where things are in the political atmosphere these days."
