May 10--The Warriors made NBA history during the regular season by going 73-9 to break the 1995-96 Bulls' mark of 72-10.
Their star made his own history Tuesday.
In repeating as the NBA's most valuable player, Stephen Curry became the first player to win the award unanimously in its 61-year history. Curry, the 11th player to win back-to-back MVP awards, received all 131 votes from 130 writers and broadcasters and one collective fan vote via the Internet.
Curry, who led the NBA in scoring at 30.1 points per game and set an NBA record with 401 3-pointers, joined Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan and Steve Nash as the only guards to repeat as MVP.
The Spurs' Kawhi Leonard narrowly edged Cavaliers star LeBron James for second place. Leonard received 54 second-place votes and 634 points. James finished with 40 second-place votes and 631 points.
Thunder stars Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant rounded out the top five. Only 10 players leaguewide received votes, including no Bulls.
Curry averaged 26 points, 6 rebounds and 7.5 assists in his two games against the Bulls but shot below his season averages. He went 17-for-38 from the field, including a pedestrian 6-for-20 from 3-point range. He made all 12 free throws.
Overall, Curry shot a career-high 50.4 percent from the field, which led all guards. His 45.4 percent shooting from 3-point range ranked second. Curry also led the NBA in free-throw percentage at 90.8 and steals at 2.14.
Curry, who also averaged 6.7 assists and a career-high 5.4 rebounds, became the fourth player in league history to average at least 30 points, six assists, five rebounds and two steals. He joined Rick Barry and Dwyane Wade, who did it once, and Jordan, who accomplished the feat three times.
