Warriors’ Steph Curry named 2021 NBA All Star starter

After missing the opportunity last year due to injury, Steph Curry will make his return to the NBA All-Star game.

On Thursday, the NBA announced Golden State Warriors point guard had been named a starter for the 2021 NBA All-Star game in Atlanta. The two-time Most Valuable Player will make his seventh appearance in the All-Star game with seven starts.

Via @warriors on Twitter:

Curry’s 2020-21 campaign is well worthy of a nod to the All-Star contest. Through 29 games, Curry is averaging 30 points on 49.2% shooting from the field with six assists and 5.3 rebounds per game. The sharpshooting guard is leading the NBA in 3-pointers made per game with five on 42.5% shooting from beyond the arc. The Davidson product has notched 35 or more points in nine games this season, including 62 point and 57 point efforts.

In his previous six All-Star game appearances, Curry is averaging 17 points, 6.7 assists, six rebounds and 1.2 steals.

Curry has now tied Nate Thurmond for third-most All-Star honors as a member of the Golden State Warriors. Curry trails Rick Barry (8) and Paul Arizin (10) in Warriors All-Star game history.

Curry will join LeBron James (Lakers), former teammate Kevin Durant (Nets), Giannis Antetokounmpo (Bucks), Luka Doncic (Mavs), Kawhi Leonard (Clippers), Kyrie Irving (Nets), Nikola Jokic (Nuggets) and Bradley Beal (Wizards) as All-Star starters. James and Durant have been named captains and will be responsible for drafting each All-Star team from starters to reserves.

The 2021 All-Star game is slated to take place on Sunday, March 7 at 5 p.m. PST at State Farm Arena in Atlanta.
