Warriors sign Steph Curry to record contract

OAKLAND, Calif._For the first time in his career, Steph Curry will finally be the Golden Warriors' highest paid player.

Soon after the clock struck midnight ET on July 1, marking the start of free agency, Curry and the Warriors predictably agreed to a five-year supermax deal worth around $201 million total, as first reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and confirmed by Bay Area News Group columnist Marcus Thompson.

Curry has long been one of the NBA's biggest bargains, signing a four-year, $44 million dollar extension four offseasons ago before exploding into a megastar, winning two MVPs despite being paid like a role player.

Those days are over. Curry will make $34.5 million next season and his contract will escalate after that, jumping more than $40 million per season in the final years of the deal, making it the largest contract in NBA history.

One important side note: Curry's contract includes no player options. He's locked in for five years and now the Warriors can move on to the rest of free agency, which already includes a three-year, $24 million pact with Shaun Livingston, according to ESPN.
