Warriors sign Mychal Mulder to multi-year contract

The Warriors did more than just keep Mychal Mulder around on another 10-day contract, they signed the former Kentucky guard to a multi-year deal on Tuesday.

Although the team didn't announce terms of the deal, the Bay Area News Group confirmed it's a non-guaranteed contract for next season. He'll reportedly make the veteran's minimum.

The 25-year-old Mulder has been a revelation since joining the Warriors two weeks ago as he's averaged 12.3 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists in six games. Mulder has also led Golden State in plus-minus (plus 33) and his 16 3-pointers (on 36% shooting) are the second-best on the team since joining the team on Feb. 27.

He scored a career-high 18 points in the Warriors' victory over the 76ers on Saturday, the day his 10-day contract expired. Perhaps most impressively, the 6-foot-4 guard has been very good defensively, where his defensive rating (105.7) is tops on the team the past six games.

"Mychal is fantastic," Kerr said after the win over Philadelphia. "A really good player. Good defensively as well, and we're lucky to have him."

Mulder was with the Heat during the preseason and earned an Exhibit 10 contract _ a non-guaranteed minimum deal that ensures a player a spot in the G-League if he doesn't make the NBA team. Mulder was cut and joined Miami's Sioux Falls SkyForce, where he averaged 17.0 while making 40% of his 3-point shots in 39 games before joining the Warriors.

With Mulder's deal done, the Warriors are $310,000 below the luxury tax, according to ESPN's NBA insider Bobby Marks. The Warriors still have two other 10-day contracts they must make decisions on. Ex-Cal star Chasson Randle's 10-day deal expires on Thursday and Dragan Bender's is up on Saturday. They could sign Bender for the rest of the season and still stay $17,000 below the luxury tax threshold, according to Marks.
