Two weeks ago, Marcin Gortat was released by the Los Angeles Clippers and has been a free agent able to sign with any team. According to reports coming out of Poland, Gortat has turned down many offers since being released hoping to receive an offer from the Golden State Warriors. From Reddit.
After being waived by the Clippers, it was reported that Gortat is interested in joining the GSW.
The news went quiet after that, but today Karol Wasiek, reliable journalist who’s close to top Polish players, claimed that Marcin Gortat already turned down several offers from NBA teams, most notably from the Bucks, with very strong intent to sign with the Warriors.
What’s more, Gortat is very persistent about that – if there won’t be any offer from the Dubs, he’s ready to lose the rest of the season.
The Warriors have reportedly been set on acquiring Robin Lopez for quite some time now. Reports surfaced at the trade deadline that the Bulls were willing to buy Lopez out, but there hasn’t been any new news on that front since.
If the Warriors have a choice, it’s definitely Lopez. However, the deadline to sign free agents to be eligible for the postseason is rapidly approaching and if Lopez isn’t bought out before March 1, Gortat could be an option if the Warriors are looking to fill their final roster spot with a backup center.
None of this has been reported by any sources statewide yet, but if Gortat is passing up signing with teams like Milwaukee, a title contender in its own right, waiting on the Warriors makes the most sense.
