Warriors re-sign center Kevon Looney

If you’re wondering where the Golden State Warriors were going to find rim protection next season, fear not. Forward Kevon Looney has officially re-signed with Golden State.

The two-time NBA champion is coming off the best season of his career. He averaged 6.3 points and 5.2 rebounds in 2018-19 in his fourth year with the Warriors. Looney also made 24 starts in 80 games and averaged just over 18 minutes per contest.

In the playoffs, he had a solid role, averaging 7.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.0 assist in 20.6 minutes.

Looney will be an important piece to the Warriors’ defense next season. The exit of DeMarcus Cousins and Andre Iguodala has left big holes in rim protection as Golden State starts to rebuild. But Looney is definitely up to the task.

Not only is he a great defender, Looney has great hands and a good nose for the ball — able to get to open spots for the easy flush.

The terms of Looney’s contract have not been released as per team policy.
