Warriors plan to unofficially retire Kevin Durant’s number

The Golden State Warriors are not going to let another player wear Kevin Durant’s No. 35 jersey, now that the two-time NBA Finals MVP is on to play with the Brooklyn Nets.
While the news, via a PR release from the team, is not an outright retirement of the jersey, it is an announcement that is drawing criticism from NBA Twitter, which sees the move as an attempt to save face, or an attempt to avoid a theoretical lawsuit for mishandling Durant’s injury during the 2019 NBA Finals.
Durant played about 250 games for the team, which most people saw as too few for this type of decision.
