SAN ANTONIO _ The shots clanked off the rim nearly every time the Warriors shot the ball. They had looks that were both wide-open and contested. It did not matter. Rarely did the ball fall into the net.
The Warriors finished with a 104-92 loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday with those clanks becoming the soundtrack of their basketball lives. And though part of this traces back to Stephen Curry's continual absence from an injured left groin, the Warriors concede those mistimed shots also reflect something else.
The Warriors shot as ugly as their numbers showed. They shot 40.7 from the field and only 19.2 percent from 3-point range. Kevin Durant had 26 points with more shots made at the free-throw line (9-of-10) than from the field (8-of-25) and 3-point range (1-of-8). Klay Thompson also had 25 points, while going 11-of-26 from the field and 3-of-11 from the perimeter.
The Spurs featured LaMarcus Aldridge (24), DeMar DeRozan (20), Rudy Gay (19), and Marco Belinelli (12) cracking double figures.
The Warriors nearly erased an 18-point deficit because of Quinn Cook, who had 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting.
