The Golden State Warriors have undergone a lot of changes in the 2019 offseason from losing key pieces like superstar Kevin Durant, former Finals MVP Andre Iguodala, All-Star DeMarcus Cousins, and young big man Jordan Bell. However, they did re-sign All-Star Klay Thompson and key bench piece Kevon Looney as they look to remain competitive in the Western Conference.
The Warriors have made the Thompson re-signing official according to Mark Medina of The Mercury News. Thompson will miss the majority, if not all of, the 2018-19 season due to a torn ACL suffered in the NBA Finals, but he is a major piece of this team’s success and a move that had to be made.
Coming up next is Looney who still needs to be made official.
Looney averaged 6.3 points and 5.2 rebounds in 2018-19 and he figures to have a bigger role for the Warriors in 2019-20. Cousins is gone and off to the Lakers and while Willie Cauley-Stein coming to replace him in the starting lineup, Looney is now the first big man option off the bench.
It figures to be a season of transition no matter how much you paint it, but it’s a situation that will require attention around the league.
