Warriors lose Harris-Tavita for 12 weeks

Injury has ruled Warriors half Chanel Harris-Tavita out of action for up to three months. (AAP)

The Warriors have been dealt a massive NRL blow with halfback Chanel Harris-Tavita ruled out for up to 12 weeks with a foot injury.

Harris-Tavita played on while hurt in the Warriors' narrow loss to Newcastle on Friday night, but scans have since confirmed he will need surgery on a stress fracture.

It comes at a horrible time for the 21-year-old, who only reclaimed the Warriors No.7 jersey at the end of last year when Blake Green left the club.

Harris-Tavita endured a difficult pre-season and missed the last trial due to a quad injury, which still appeared to be hampering him in the opening two rounds.

The Warriors are set to call on the inexperienced Sean O'Sullivan as the only other playmaker on their roster, after he moved from Brisbane at the end of last year.

It comes after the club lost centre Euan Aitken for up to 10 weeks after surgery on a high ankle sprain at the end of last week.

Meanwhile, any early potential travel bubble between Australia and New Zealand will not prompt the Warriors to return home early.

The club at this stage expects to be based in Australia until at least June 21 despite an announcement on a border opening expected in early April.

Warriors officials have told AAP that concerns over renewed closures if any outbreak occur on either side of the Tasman mean they will take a cautious approach.
