Warriors issue statement following death of George Floyd and ongoing protests

Ongoing protest demonstrations are taking place across the country following the tragic death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

A video surfaced of Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin kneeling on Floyd’s throat for around eight minutes. Despite pleas that he couldn’t breathe, Chauvin continued to hold his knee on Floyd’s neck until he went unconscious. Floyd was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The four officers involved have been fired. Chauvin has been charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

In response to the killing of Floyd and protests, the Golden State Warriors have released a statement.

We condemn, in no uncertain terms, racism and violence perpetrated against members of the black community, and we call on all people to channel their justifiable anger into creating a more just and equitable society.

Stephen Curry and Steve Kerr have joined others in the NBA community to voice outrage since the death of Floyd.
