Warriors invite state champion Oakland High women’s basketball team to training facility

The Golden State Warriors aren’t the only hoops champions from The City in the last year. Just a few weeks ago, the Oakland High School girls basketball team won the Division III CIF State Championship.

On March 3, the No. 2 ranked Oakland Wildcats defeated the top-ranked McFarland Cougars in the state final championship 51-35. The Wildcats got it done on the defensive end of the floor, keeping McFarland to fewer than 10 points in every quarter except the second, where they gave up 14.

Oakland forced 28 turnovers that led to a lot of fastbreak opportunities. Morgan Dunbar led Oakland with 20 points with Khirah McCoy right behind her with 18.

Because they were able to bring home the school’s first women’s basketball state title, they were invited to the Warriors practice facility to meet and shoot around with the Warriors. NBC Sports writer Logan Murdoc captured some video from the meeting between the two teams, including Klay Thompson rebounding for the whole team.
