Warriors interrupted Willie Cauley-Stein’s fishing trip to sign him

The first foray into free agency for a player can be nerve-wracking for some guys and it can even be boring. If you aren’t one of the top name free agents, then you may be waiting for a little bit.

For new Golden State Warriors big man Willie Cauley-Stein, he took up a new activity to pass the time until his call came. That new activity was fishing and he told the story of how the Warriors called him while he was on the lake:

I got a call from my agent and I’m out on the booney’s, fishing. I get a call from my agent and they’re like ‘Where you at? The Warriors are trying to call.’ I’m like ‘Hold on! I’m on the lake. I have no service!’ So I had to drive two miles up the road so I can get service so I can talk on the phone. They’re telling me the deals and I’m like ‘Oh! This happened really quick!’

Cauley-Stein will take over the starting center position in Golden State with DeMarcus Cousins leaving for the Los Angeles Lakers. He averaged 11.9 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists in the final of four seasons with the Sacramento Kings.

The Warriors will be entering a new era of their franchise and they’re hoping Cauley-Stein can be a key piece of this new era. They clearly have a lot of interest in him to interrupt his fishing trip.
