Warriors honor Oakland, Kevin Durant for final game at Oracle Arena

The Golden State Warriors’ dreams of a three-peat are still alive as they return home for Game 6 on Thursday night. Trailing the Toronto Raptors in the NBA Finals, 3-2, they will look to force a winner-take-all Game 7 on Sunday back in Toronto.

Seeing that this is the final game at Oracle Arena no matter what happens on Thursday — the team heads across the bridge in San Francisco to the brand new Chase Center in 2019-20 — the Warriors are bringing out all of the stops.

They are giving out towels that feature both a tribute to Oakland and Kevin Durant, who suffered a ruptured Achilles in Monday’s Game 5 win in Toronto.

Along with the organization giving love to Durant in the final game at Oracle, backup guard Quinn Cook paid homage to the Warriors superstar.

Durant, who’s decision to join Golden State in the summer of 2016 has been heavily scrutinized, led the Warriors to back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018 and won Finals MVP both seasons. He has been an integral part of the success in Oakland and the heart he showed to push through his calf strain and put it on the line for his team is commendable.

The Warriors are using Durant as motivation to get this thing to a Game 7 and win a championship for their fallen teammate in the final season at the historic Oracle Arena.
