Warriors foundation announces $250,000 donation to Bay Area school districts

The Golden State Warriors announced Tuesday its community foundation contributed to a $250,000 donation to help coronavirus relief efforts for Oakland and San Francisco Unified School districts.

Head coach Steve Kerr donated $100,000, which the Warriors Community Foundation matched. Hewlett Packard Enterprise contributed the rest of the money.

The $250,00 will be split in half between the school districts in honor of National Teacher Appreciation Day, which was Tuesday.

The money will help schools as they teach children remotely through laptops and internet hotspot purchases.

Warriors guard Damion Lee appeared on virtual meetings with district employees to announce the donation and thank the teachers for what they do.

Kerr raised the money through the podcast he and Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll debuted in April. “Flying Coach” focuses on the experience of the two coaches as they talk about how they run their teams and reflect on coaching memories and stylings.

Bay Area coronavirus statistics can be found at NBC Bay Area. The website updates the numbers daily.
