Warriors forward Kevin Durant explains why he engages on social media

Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant has faced a lot of criticism since July 4, 2016. That date was the day he decided to sign with the Warriors after so many years with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

He has faced haters on Twitter and Instagram and all forms of social media. The latest feud is with Fox Sports 1’s Chris Broussard who recently said he and Durant have gone back-and-forth on text messages.

One can fully wonder “why does he even bother?” and it’s a fair question. Durant has it all. He has two championships, two Finals MVP’s, and is arguably the best player in basketball.

He recently opened up on why he responds to critics.

Because it’s social media. Because I’m a human being and a social media guy. I would see if I ventured off into politics or culinary arts or music and giving my input, but I’m sticking to something that I know. I’m kind of qualified to talk about basketball, especially if it’s about me personally.

The latest criticism has been that the Warriors, who are 5-0 since Durant’s calf injury, are better without the superstar forward. Golden State leader Stephen Curry came out and defended Durant against those critics continuing the team and family aspect that this team has built.

They will now officially turn their attention to the Toronto Raptors in the NBA Finals on May 30 in Toronto.
