Warriors are making history on their way to 5th straight NBA Finals

When the final buzzer sounded in Game 4 on Monday, the Golden State Warriors made history by finishing off a sweep of the Portland Trail Blazers in the Western Conference Finals and clinch a spot in the Finals for a fifth straight season.

This run for the Warriors has been historic as Stephen Curry and company have romped through the league the last half-decade. In fact, if it wasn’t for a Draymond Green suspension in the 2016 Finals, you could make an argument that Golden State could be going for a fifth straight title this season.

According to USA Today, the Warriors are a historically dominant team already.

The Warriors are one of only two teams in NBA history to have played for the championship five consecutive seasons. The Boston Celtics are the other group, having appeared in the Finals 10 straight seasons from 1957-66 – winning the title nine of those years.

The Warriors have completed six sweeps in their dynastic five-season run, including Monday night when they closed out the Blazers in the Western Conference finals.

The five Finals trips are historic enough. Those Celtics teams are considered some of the best in NBA history and this Warriors team is mentioned in the same breath as them.

The six sweeps are mind-blowing when you consider the fact that from 1992-2012, the Warriors made the playoffs just two times. This franchise has come a long way from those dark times. They’ve gone from the butt of jokes to being one of the most feared teams in NBA history. This dynasty is up there with the likes of the Celtics, the Chicago Bulls, and the Los Angeles Lakers.

You have to like their chances to three-peat this season with nine days off to rest up before Game 1 in either Milwaukee or Toronto on May 30.
