Warriors announce the extension of Steve Kerr's contract

The Warriors have signed coach Steve Kerr to a contract extension, the team announced Tuesday afternoon.

"We're excited to have Steve under contract and poised to lead our team for the next several years," said Warriors' general manager Bob Myers in a statement.

Under Kerr, the Warriors have won three championships in his first four seasons, accumulating a 63-20 playoff record (.759), which is the highest winning percentage in NBA history among coaches who have coached a minimum of 25 games, according to Elias Sports Bureau. Former Bulls coach Phil Jackson is second with a 229-104 record (.688).

"Under his guidance, we've been fortunate enough to win three NBA titles in four years and his ability to thrive in all facets of his job is certainly a primary reason for our success. He's a terrific coach, but more importantly an incredible human being."

The Bay Area News Group confirmed last month that an agreement had been finalized.
