Warriors announce Klay Thompson will be out for rest of season

SAN FRANCISCO _ The Warriors have officially ruled out guard Klay Thompson for the remainder of the season, the team announced.

Thompson, who suffered a torn ACL in Game 6 of last June's NBA Finals, has not played this season and was re-evaluated over the All-Star break.

According to the team, Thompson is "making good progress and is right on track with his rehabilitation timeline." He is expected back in time for the Warriors' training camp in late September.

The official update aligns with head coach Steve Kerr's expectations since the start of the season.

"Even though he's coming along well, there isn't any chance at this point," Kerr said Thursday. "We told you we'd have an update right after the All-Star break and here's the update.

"Like I said, this is what I expected right from the beginning given the severity of the injury and the normal timetable. ... It's no surprise."

Meanwhile, the Warriors are expecting to get Stephen Curry, sidelined since the fourth game of the season with a broken left hand, back in early March.

At that point, they will be able to get a fuller look at their roster as they head into a pivotal offseason, though they will do so without Thompson.

Next season, Thompson, 30, will rejoin a team with a healthy Curry and Draymond Green, along with the newly-acquired Andrew Wiggins as the Warriors hope to return to title contention.

Thompson has not been ruled out for the summer Olympics in Tokyo.
