Warriors’ Andrew Wiggins reveals lofty goals ahead of new season

Andrew Wiggins struggled to recapture the performance level that made him a defensive anchor during the Golden State Warriors 2022 NBA championship run. The veteran wing missed over 20 games due to personal issues and battled through a rib injury during Golden State’s ill-fated series against the Los Angeles Lakers.

During a recent interview with Sportskeeda’s Mark Medina, Wiggins discussed the upcoming season and some personal goals he would “love” to achieve throughout the basketball year. Wiggins noted how making an All-Defensive team and an All-Star team are both high on his list. However, Wiggins clarified that any individual success is a byproduct of the Warriors’ success as a unit.

“Connecting with the team and having a solid and strong season,” Wiggins told Medina. “I would love to be an All-Star. I would love to be on the All-Defensive team. We have to win games and stay consistent. That’s what’s most important.”

Wiggins has proven himself as a core member of the Warriors rotation. The three-and-d wing is one of the best defenders in the NBA when healthy and locked in. Considering the Warriors’ commitment to adding offensive-minded talent this summer, Wiggins could find himself shouldering a heavy load on the defensive end in the coming months.

If the Warriors have a strong season, and Wiggins is producing on both sides of the floor, there’s no reason why he can’t position himself to be in the running for an All-Star selection and an All-Defensive team at the end of the season.
