Warriors and Draymond Green agree to a deal: Four more years, $100 million, report

Warriors fans won't have to spend next season worrying if another key member of the team will leave via free agency, as star Draymond Green reportedly agreed to a four year, $100 million contract extension.

The deal begins after next season, Green's agent, Rich Paul, told ESPN on Saturday morning. The three-time All-Star will receive $22.2 million in the first year of the deal, with increases each season and will take him up to $27.6 million in the final season.

With free agency looming next summer, three-time All-Star Draymond Green has agreed to a four-year, $100M maximum contract extension with Golden State, agent Rich Paul of Klutch Sports tells ESPN.

Green, 29, could have been a free agent next July and passed up a potential bigger payday to commit now to the Warriors. The Warriors could have offered Green a five-year, $204 million deal next summer if he had re-signed as a free agent and he would have been eligible for as much as a four-year, $151 million deal from other teams, according to The Ringer's Kevin O'Connor.

The Warriors' 2018-19 season was dominated by Kevin Durant's uncertain contract status. He ultimately signed with the Brooklyn Nets after the Warriors lost to the Toronto Raptors in the NBA Finals.

Green's decision to sign now all but assure the Warriors that the central pieces to their three NBA titles will remain together deep into their careers. Green joins fellow cornerstones Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, and key newcomer D'Angelo Russell with contracts that run through at least the summer of 2002.

The second-round pick in 2012 draft has spent his entire seven-year career with Golden State and has been instrumental in their run to five straight NBA Finals.

For his career, Green has averaged 9.1 points, 6.9 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 1.4 steals per game with 22 triple-doubles. He was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2016-17 and has been on the All-Defensive first or second team in each of the last five seasons.
