Warriors add center Kavion Pippen to training camp roster

The Golden State Warriors are so depleted by injuries at the center position that they have taken efforts to bring more bigs into practices. First came reports that the Warriors brought Hasheem Thabeet in for workouts on Friday, and now The Athletic’s Anthony Slater reports via Twitter that Golden State has signed Kavion Pippen to its practice roster.

Pippen, the nephew of NBA great Scottie, went undrafted out of Southern Illinois. In 32 games (and 30 starts) in his 2018-19 senior season, Pippen averaged 12.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. His field-goal shooting percentage was 56% and he made 71.4% of his free throws.

At 6-foot-10, 240 pounds, Pippen’s size resembles Kevon Looney’s, making him an ideal practice piece until Looney (hamstring) and Willie Cauley-Stein (foot) are cleared to play.

While it is doubtful that Pippen’s tenure with the Warriors will continue beyond the practice roster, anything can happen. Players are told to always stay ready for a reason.

In other Warriors’ roster news, Devyn Marble was waived.
