Warriors acquire second-round pick from the Hawks for cash, future pick

The Golden State Warriors made a move early Thursday morning to acquire another pick in Thursday’s NBA Draft.

The team is facing a full season of injuries, from Klay Thompson’s torn ACL to Kevin Durant’s ruptured Achilles, which will keep both guys out for the majority, if not all of, the 2019-20 season.

With the possibility of a transition season upcoming in the Bay, the Warriors are beginning to amass assets in order to acquire more young talent or even flip these assets in the future to set themselves up.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Warriors are acquiring the 41st pick of the NBA Draft from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for $1.3 million and a 2024 second-round pick.

The Warriors will now have three draft picks on Thursday as they begin to move into the future a little bit. Combine those injuries with the possibility of losing Durant and DeMarcus Cousins in free agency, it’s time for general manager Bob Myers and company to figure out what to do in the aftermath of one of the more dominant runs in NBA history.

The NBA Draft is Thursday from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
