OAKLAND, Calif. _ The Golden State Warriors finished with a 141-102 blistering of the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday at Oracle for a simple reason.
The Warriors (38-15) have plenty of All-Star depth. The Spurs (32-24) do not have much at all. San Antonio rested DeMar DeRozan and LaMarcus Aldridge for "load management." The Warriors did not. As Warriors coach Steve Kerr joked, "no loads will be managed on our part."
So, Klay Thompson (26 points), Kevin Durant (23), DeMarcus Cousins (15), Stephen Curry (19) and Draymond Green (seven points, five rebounds, four assists) all contributed before sitting out the entire fourth quarter. The Warriors broke the game open in the third quarter after scoring 49 points on 17-of-22 shooting and 5-of-7 from 3 along with 16 assists. That marks a franchise-record for most assists in a quarter. The Warriors also outperformed the Spurs in fast-break points, 50-8.
Durant spent the past week declining to speak with local media ever since the Knicks traded Kristaps Porzingis to Dallas presumably to create enough cap space for Durant and Kyrie Irving to sign as free agents this summer. So, Durant spent Wednesday's game letting his play do all the talking.
The Warriors have won 13 of their past 14 games and face the Phoenix Suns in Phoenix on Friday.
