'Warrior' mum battled to get answers for 'beautiful' baby boy

A "warrior" mum has been praised for battling to get a diagnosis for her "beautiful" baby boy.

Beth Reilly, 23, first suspected there was something wrong with Bailey, one, when he began to display "flu-like" symptoms and started to fall over a lot at home. When the symptoms persisted, Beth took him to hospital, where she was reassured that everything was fine.

The mum-of-one, from Wallasey, told the ECHO : "Bailey was covered in bruises but we thought he was just learning to walk and so it was normal. It went on for about three weeks so I decided to take him to hospital.

"I actually took him to hospital six times in one week but they kept telling me he was okay and it was probably viral. I ended up rushing him to A&E one day because he was really floppy but again they told us it was nothing."

Eventually, Beth convinced the nurses to carry out blood tests, which led to Bailey being diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Bailey was immediately transferred to Alder Hey, where he has since been undergoing treatment.

Beth, who gave up work following Bailey's diagnosis, said: "He’s our only child which obviously makes things harder because he’s the best thing to us. The main thing I want to get out there is the signs of what to look out for, and to never give up and trust your motherly instincts."

And ECHO readers have commended Beth for her persistence. Sharon Brady said: "It's heartbreaking. Thankfully Mum was another warrior and trusted her instinct."

Ellie Batiste commented: "Wishing Bailey all the love and luck in the world. We know our bodies and our children better than any book or protocol can teach," while Julia Cooke said: "Mums know best that there's something not right. I hope this little guy makes a full recovery. God bless him."

Den Agius said: "Aw speedy recovery Bailey and well done his mum being vigilant and persistent," while Pauline Connor commented: "God bless this beautiful little baby and his lovely family."

Liz Williams said: "Oh he’s so beautiful couldn’t imagine what his mum and dad are going through, wishing you a fast recovery Bailey."

Describing Bailey, Beth said: "He is literally the happiest boy ever. He’s always smiling. H e’s just started nursery and was learning to walk and all of a sudden, it feels like that’s just stopped."
