‘Warrior’ - Edwin van der Sar sends classy message to Lisandro Martinez upon Manchester United switch

Manchester United icon and Ajax CEO Edwin van der Sar has delivered a heartfelt message to Lisandro Martinez following the confirmation of his move to Manchester United.

The Argentina international was officially unveiled by the club on Wednesday, just hours before he participated in their 4-1 behind closed doors friendly win over Wrexham. Martinez has spoken about the “honour” of signing for United before sending a goodbye message to Ajax.

Van der Sar has now sent a message back to the 24-year-old, thanking him for his services and wishing luck at Old Trafford. Writing on Twitter, he said: “What a warrior you have been for us in Amsterdam!

“We all loved your ability to develop yourself like so many others before you and play the football we like to watch but if needed the grit and determination in defence!

"Good luck at this amazing club with a manager that shares the philosophy of attacking football in the style of Ajax. Good Luck Licha.”

Martinez won the Dutch title under new United boss Erik ten Hag last season after winning the league and cup double the campaign prior.
