Warrington Wolves close in on Castleford Tigers forward as Daryl Powell raids current club again

Warrington Wolves are closing in on the signing of Castleford Tigers forward Oliver Holmes.

Rugby League Live understands the Wire are in advanced talks to sign the forward, who looks set to make the jump from the Tigers to the Wolves alongside head coach Daryl Powell.

Holmes, 28, has spent his entire career at Castleford, making over 200 appearances in the process.

An England international having made his debut in 2018, he has been in outstanding form for the Tigers this year, producing a number of impressive performances during their impressive start to the season.

But his twelfth season with the club appears set to be his last. Though a deal with the Wolves has yet to be finalised one source said that it's incredibly likely that he will join Powell at Warrington next year.

Reports also claim that Peter Mata'utia, the Tigers centre, will make the same move across the M62 ahead of the 2022 season.

Both Warrington and Castleford are expected to be incredibly active in the recruitment market as their new coaches rebuild their squads.

A number of further recruits are expected at both clubs, with a significant chunk of salary cap space set to be freed up due to high-name departures.

Halfback Blake Austin looks set to head up the Wire's list of departees while Castleford are likely to move on a number of players, while the likes of Michael Shenton and Grant Millington could both return.

The Tigers have lined up moves for George Lawler and Bureta Faraimo and have other targets in their sights.

But Holmes is unlikely to be part of Lee Radford's squad.

Castleford play Warrington in the Challenge Cup semi-final next month.
