Warrenpoint Town vs Dungannon Swifts: Kris Lindsay "bit surprised" to see Irish League proceed this weekend

Dungannon Swifts boss Kris Lindsay admits he was a “bit surprised” to see the Irish League proceed as normal this weekend in the wake of rising Covid-19 numbers.

NIFL chiefs were consulting with clubs yesterday over a potential circuit breaker until the end of the month following a number of positive cases in the local game.

Today’s Big Two derby and Glenavon’s trip to Portadown both fell victim to the virus earlier in the week, while Larne and Ballymena United are also without a game.

Ballymena were due to play derby rivals Coleraine while Larne were set to travel to Carrick who now play Coleraine in a rescheduled game this afternoon.

Ahead of Dungannon’s trip to Warrenpoint Town, Lindsay said: “I have to say I am a bit surprised the games are going ahead.

“We obviously have to prepare as though the games are going ahead as we do every week, but with everything going on, it is a bit of a surprise that we are still playing.

“While the advice and guidance says we can continue, that’s what we will do and we’ll be physically and mentally prepared for the game at Warrenpoint.

“Warrenpoint are well organised and have good attacking players, so we’re under no illusions. It’s a massive game and we have to get a result.”
