Warrenpoint Town goalkeeper Mark Byrne suspended for three months

Warrenpoint Town goalkeeper Mark Byrne has been hit with a three-month suspension following this month's Irish Cup fracas at Milltown.

Byrne was banned for six months, three of which are suspended for 18 months, after being found guilty of "bringing the game into disrepute" by the Irish FA's disciplinary committee.

Warrenpoint Town have also been fined £250 and Ballymena United £750 after both were found guilty of "spectator misconduct".

Byrne was red carded after finding himself involved in a heated altercation with away supporters in the dying moments of the sixth round fixture on February 1.

The goalkeeper's suspension will start on Monday, February 24, ruling the 19-year-old out for the rest of the season.

Both clubs have the right to appeal.
