Warrenpoint Harbour death investigated by police

Police are investigating the death of a man at a harbour in Co Down.

Emergency services attended the scene at Warrenpoint Harbour at around 2.30pm today.

The exact circumstances of his death are not yet known but it is believed he was crushed by a piece of machinery.

A Northern Ireland Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed it responded to the call.

A spokesman said: "The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 14.32 on Thursday 18 July 2019 relating to an incident at Warrenpoint.

"NIAS dispatched one Emergency crew to the scene.

"Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, no-one was transferred to hospital."

Police said that they are in attendance.

A spokesman said: "Police are in attendance following the sudden death of a man at Warrenpoint Harbour this afternoon (Thursday 18 July).

"The Health and Safety Executive have been made aware of the incident."
