1. Has Trump met his match?

Hillary Clinton may be Donald Trump’s likely election rival, but Senator Elizabeth Warren has emerged as a heavyweight adversary to Trump in a hard-hitting war of words.

Summary

Warren caught Trump on the chin in a speech Tuesday night, seizing on remarks Trump made in 2006 that he “sort of hope[d]” the housing market would crash so he could capitalize on it.

Summary

Donald Trump was drooling over the idea of a housing meltdown ... what kind of a man does that? What kind of a man roots for people to get thrown out of their house? … I’ll tell you exactly ... it is a man who cares about no one but himself. A small, insecure money-grubber who doesn’t care who gets hurt so long as he makes a profit off it.

2. Clinton attacks Trump’s populist pose

Clinton said Trump’s remarks on the housing bubble amounted to a betrayal of homeowners facing foreclosure. She redoubled her call for Trump to release his tax returns.

Should Clinton ignore ‘Crooked Hillary’ – or fight back?

Summary

[Trump] said that a mortgage crisis would have been good for his business. And I’ve got to tell you, why on Earth would we elect somebody president who actually rooted for the collapse of the mortgage market?

3. Damning report on Clinton emails

An internal state department investigation of Clinton’s use of private email while secretary of state concluded she undermined federal records laws and incurred “security risks”.

Summary

The Republican national committee said the report showed that “Hillary Clinton hasn’t been telling the truth since day one.” “Not so good,” said Trump. “The inspector general’s report, not good.”

Clinton camp: nothing to see here

The Inspector General documents just how consistent her email practices were with those of other Secretaries and senior officials at the State Department who also used personal email.

4. Ryan denies Trump endorsement

Unnamed “senior sources” in the Trump campaign told multiple media outlets on Wednesday that House speaker Paul Ryan was about to endorse Trump. Some outlets reported it as fact.

Summary

Not so fast, Ryan said: “I haven’t made a decision.” Asked whether the Trump camp was pressuring him to endorse, he said: “I don’t worry about that stuff. I’ve been around a long time.”
