Warnings after cliff collapse at Welsh beach during the weekend

Bank holiday visitors have been warned to be careful near coastal cliffs at a Vale of Glamorgan beach after a large rock fall.

The fall happened at Llantwit Major beach over the weekend.

The Llantwit Major coastguard said: "Please keep a safe distance from the cliff edge if walking across the cliff top and if walking on the beach it is recommended you stay away from the base of the cliffs a distance equal to its height."

The coastguard shared these pictures of the large cliff fall with the warning.

The area is expected to be busy on bank holiday Monday as people enjoy the good weather and the last holiday of the summer.

In 2015, a 23-year-old woman died when a cliff collapsed at the beach.

Georgie Ford had been having a beach picnic to celebrate finishing her exams when a large boulder plunged 20ft from a cliff-face and hit her head.
