Warning to parents over security fears associated with posting back-to-school photos online

When kids head back to school it can be a massive sense of relief for their tired and over-worked parents.

But it's also a proud moment for mums and dads to see their little ones working their way through the school years.

So, of course a happy photo is usually captured on new, pristine uniform before they come home covered in paint or food.

But security experts are asking parents to think twice before taking part in this right of passage, MirrorOnline reports.

At least, when it comes to sharing them online.

Experts have warned parents against sharing first day of school photos across their social media accounts, as a staggering 30 per cent of their online profiles are public - so anyone can see what they post.

In a study carried out by McAfee, it was revealed that over half of parents who took part were afraid about paedophiles accessing images of their kids.

35 per cent expressed their worry about kidnapping.

Chief scientist and Fellow at McAfee, Raj Samani, said: "Before proud parents share their children's 'first day' photos on social media, they must consider the potential consequences of what they post."

He added: "These sorts of images can be used to gather personal information such as school, location, a child’s full name, or even birth dates to paint a picture of who they are."
