Warning to parents after child approached by knife-wielding thug outside school

A child was approached by someone wielding a knife in Stockport - prompting a warning to parents.

The Reddish Vale High School pupil was targeted by a person described as a 'young member of the public' on Wednesday.

The offender is not a pupil at Reddish Vale, school bosses said.

Greater Manchester Police have been informed about the incident.

Posting on the Reddish Vale's Facebook page, a school spokesman said: "We have been informed today of an incident where a young member of the public (not associated with the school) approached one of our students with a knife.

"The student is safe and the police have been informed of the perpetrator.

"Please can you speak with your children too about being vigilant on the way to and from school.

"We will share this message with pupils too.  Thanks for your continued support."
