Warning to motorists as Plimsoll Bridge closes this weekend

Motorists have been warned to expect delays as Plimsoll Bridge closes this weekend for testing.

Barriers and diversion signs in place will be in place between 11pm on Saturday (June 1) and 5am on Sunday (June 2), according to Bristol City Council .

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area during these times as a number of tests are carried out on the swing bridge.

A spokesman for the council said: "Plimsoll Bridge will be fully closed to traffic between 11pm on Saturday (June 1) and 5am on Sunday (June 2), with barriers and diversion signs in place.

"A number of tests will be carried out on the swing bridge with motorists advised to avoid the area during these times.

"We apologise for the inconvenience during these essential works."

Earlier this week, Plimsoll Bridge was closed in both directions this morning due to emergency repairs.

The closure caused congestion on the A370 from Long Ashton and on the A4 Portway back under Clifton Suspension Bridge .
