Warning to keep windows and doors shut as fire fighters tackle large rubbish fire

Residents have been urged to keep windows and doors closed as fire fighters tackle a blaze.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue service were called to a large rubbish fire on Church Road in Woolton at 3.37pm on Saturday, June 11. Crews were on scene by 3.45pm.

A large quantity of rubbish, approximately 20m x 30m, was involved in the fire and two main jets have been used to tackle it. Two fire engines remained at the scene at around 5:45pm

Merseyside Police also attended to assist with road closures. As well as Church Road, Beaconsfield Road was closed, while fire engines were also seen on Newcroft Road.

Due to drifting smoke, people were urged to keep their windows and doors shut.

At the time of writing the incident is ongoing and people have been urged to avoid the area. At 5.45pm, Merseyside Fire and Rescue service confirmed that the incident was being scaled down.
