Residents and motorists are being warned of disruption in Keynsham as two weeks of roadworks, which include closing parts of the high street, are set to start.
The closures, which will begin on Monday (October 14), will enable investigative surveys to be done which will inform the detailed design for planned public realm improvements in Keynsham town centre.
Bath & North East Somerset Council (B&NES) has secured £1.5 million towards the cost of the scheme which is aimed at helping to future proof the town centre by making the high street more attractive and accessible.
The money was secured from the West of England Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) through the Local Growth Fund (LGF), administered by the West of England Combined Authority (WECA).
The authority has written to local residents and businesses to inform them of the works, the majority of which will take place in the evenings and on Sundays to limit disruption.
Joanna Wright, cabinet member for transport services at B&NES, said: “These works are essential to our planned public realm improvements which will benefit both residents and businesses in Keynsham.
“We’ve scheduled road closures to keep disruption to a minimum and I’d like to thank local people for their cooperation and patience while the work is carried out.”
When and where
Work will be carried out under temporary traffic lights between 6pm and midnight Monday to Friday on High Street, Charlton Road, Rock Road and Temple Street.
A section of the High Street, between Charlton Road and Bath Hill will be closed on Sunday, October 20 and Sunday, October 27 between 8am and 6pm.
The diversion route will be via Charlton Road, Ashton Way, Rock Road, Temple Street and Bath Hill.
Advance notices will be positioned along the route to warn drivers of the road closure.
Restricted vehicle access for residents within the road closure will be maintained whenever possible and access will be controlled by traffic marshals.
Work on Keynsham’s public realm improvements is expected to begin in summer 2020 and be completed by spring 2021.
The planned improvements include: footpath decluttering, widening and resurfacing, better cycling and bus stop facilities and new street furniture, street lights and trees.
