Warning to dog walkers after 'sausages with nails in them' found at popular Merseyside park

Dog walkers have been warned that "sausages with nails in them" have been found at a popular Merseyside park.

The Facebook account for Central Park in Wirral said a visitor told staff about the issue on Wednesday, and urged walkers to take care, and watch what their dogs are doing.

The account for the Wallasey park's cafe posted on Wednesday: "If you are out in the park this evening walking your dog, please take extra care. One of our visitors has informed us of sausages with nails in them have been found in the park.

"Please take care and watch what your dog is picking up. We will alert Wirral Council about this and ask the gardening staff to also inform people in the morning when they are in."

It's since been shared hundreds of times, with visitors to the park popular with dog walkers asking "why anyone would do such a thing".

Here's what to do if you're a victim of crime:

According to the council, Central Park is the largest area of parkland in Wallasey. It contains various sporting facilities and a walled garden and fishing lake.

When contacted for comment, a Wirral Council spokesman said: "Staff at the park heard about this alleged incident anecdotally. After carrying out a thorough search and clean-up of the area, they found no evidence of anything untoward.”
