Warning to dog walkers after meat laced with nails and hooks left on a street

A warning has been issued to dog owners after pieces of ham laced with nails and metal hooks were left on a street in Tameside.

The worrying find was made on Edward Street in Denton on Wednesday afternoon.

Andy Rossy said he had been walking his dog along the road when he noticed the animal sniffing something that 'didn't look right'.

He went for a closer a look, but as he did the dog - named George - picked whatever it was up with his mouth.

Andy shouted for George to drop it, which he did, and was horrified to see what fell to the ground.

"I was just walking my dog along Edward Street and noticed he was sniffing something that didn't look right," he said.

"When I got closer to George he had put the meat in his mouth and I shouted at him to let go.

"When he did I noticed there was nails and hooks on it - luckily enough he had not swallowed it."

Andy picked up the bits of ham he could find and then decided to warn other dog owners by sharing photos of the meat on social media.

He also reported the incident to police.

He wrote: "Please beware if your walking your dog around Edward Street in Denton, some idiots are putting nails and hooks in slices of meat for your dogs to eat.

"I've just found these whilst walking my dog. Please be careful folks."

A spokesman for GMP confirmed it was aware of the incident.
