Warning to dog owners after 'pink pellets' left in park

Police have issued a warning after dogs ate pink pellets which were left out in a Southport park.

Two dog owners had to take their pet to the vets this week after they ate pink pellets found in Hesketh Park.

Both dogs are safe and well, and police are trying to find out if the pellets are harmful or not.

Hesketh Park, a large Victorian greenspace near Southport's waterfront, is a popular route for dog walkers.

Police have now warned dog owners to take extra car when in the park .

The force posted a message on social media which read: "Local police have received two reports from dog owners that their dogs have ingested pink pellets discarded on Hesketh Park, Southport this week.

"As a precautionary measure both dogs were taken to the vets shortly after ingesting the pellets and are safe and well. Officers are currently working to establish the source of the pellets and whether they are harmful.
