Warning to dog owners after food manufacturer recalls popular brand

Dog owners are being urged to return a popular brand dog UK dog food as it is feared that it may contain small pieces of metal. The warning which has been issued pleads owners of four-legged friends to check if they have any affected tins of the product, and if so, to not feed them to their pooch.

Sharp or pointy objects have the potential to perforate a dog's intestines if consumed, and immediate veterinary care should be sought if your pet has eaten even small fragments of metal. This has led manufacturers Encore to recall their Beef Selection in Gravy multipack dog food, as the Beef Steak with Potatoes in Gravy tin could potentially contain these.

Customers in possession of the product have instead been advised to return the item to the shop they bought it from for a full refund. The Manchester Evening News reports that the Food Standards Agency have also in-turn released a statement regarding this product.

The statement said: "We urge customers who have bought this product not to feed it to their dog and return it to the store with or without a receipt from where it was bought for a full refund."

It said there were three batches of products affected, reports the Mirror. These are:

Encore Beef Selection in Gravy (multipack)
Pack size: five tins x 156 g
Batch code: LU1-343
Best-before date: 9 December 2024

Encore Beef Selection in Gravy (multipack)
Pack size: five tins x 156 g
Batch code: LU1-302
Best-before date: 29 October 2024

Encore Beef Steak with Potatoes in Gravy (individual tin)
Pack size: 156 g
Batch code: LU1343D
Best-before date: December 2024

Encore has issued a point of sale notice to all retail stores selling its products, labelled 'important safety warning'.

It reads: "Encore is recalling its multipack Beef Selection in Gravy because the Beef Steak with Potatoes in Gravy tin (156g) may contain small pieces of metal, which is sold only as part of a multipack. We urge customers who have bought this product not to feed it to their dog and to return the Multipack for a full refund with or without a receipt.

"The Encore helpdesk is also available here. We're sorry for any inconvenience this precautionary recall may cause. No other Encore products are affected by this recall."
