Warning to dog owners about dangerous razor blades hidden in tennis balls

Heading out for a walk your dogs should be an easy task that doesn't require thought about whether your four-legged friends are safe.

But this was not the case for one dog owner when his puppies found a dangerous tennis ball.

Concealed in the ball was a razor blade, which the dog owner believes was specifically put there to target canines.

Police are now investigating the find, which the owner believes was specially made to target dogs.

The incident is believed to have happened in a Stockport park on Friday evening, ManchesterEveningNews reports.

A dog owner claims their puppies found the balls hidden in reeds and their puppies began chewing at it.

The ball then disintegrated and a brand new razor blade was found wedged inside.

They say "can't bear to think of the consequences" had the dogs chewed or swallowed the blade itself during incident which they have reported to police and park rangers.

Posting on Facebook, the owner said: "It has been doctored by someone who evidently has malevolent intentions towards dogs.

"My puppies carried it back to the car and chewed it up. We found this vicious razor blade inside.

"The pond life responsible may use poison or there may be more doctored balls in the vicinity.

"Please be vigilant- my dogs just found this old ball set in the reeds hidden for them to find.

"I even threw it for them! I can’t bear to think of the consequences..."

A spokeswoman for the National Trust, who run Lyme Park said: “We are aware of an incident reported by a local dog walker on Friday 24 May. The matter is now being investigated by local police.

"We've informed our countryside team who will be carrying out additional checks whilst working in the wider estate.”
