Warning to Bristol Airport flyers ahead of major A38 roadworks which will close road

Major roadworks to resurface a six kilometre section of the A38 near Bristol Airport will take place this weekend.

Works to surface dress a section of the road between the South Bristol Link Road and the junction of Downside Road were originally going to go ahead earlier this month.

However, this work was delayed due to heavy rain and the resurfacing scheme will now be carried out tomorrow (June 22) and on Sunday (June 23).

Traffic heading out of Bristol towards the airport between 5am and noon will be diverted along the South Bristol Link Road, A370 and Brockley Combe.

Outside these hours, the A38 will be open with temporary reduced speed limits until line painting is finished later in the week.

People travelling to Bristol Airport have been advised to leave more time for their journeys.

Surface dressing costs around a quarter of full resurfacing options and takes days rather than weeks to complete.

It increases the life of a road by up to 12 years, protects it from water damage and improves surface skid resistance, which makes the road safer.
