Warning to anyone with hay fever as pollen bomb hits

Hay fever sufferers could be in for a tough time this weekend as the Met Office warned high pollen levels could hit Liverpool.

Merseyside is set to bask in glorious sunshine today as sunny conditions with highs of 20C have been forecast. However, the rising temperatures have also coincided with the onset of the grass pollen season which spells misery for anyone with hay fever.

Many will be reaching for antihistamines to relieve the symptoms of hay fever. However, sometimes the medicine isn't quite enough as people will look for other ways to help cope with the frequent sneezing, runny noses and itchy eyes that comes with hay fever.

While people may be eager to open the doors and windows to help during the hot weather, experts from window company Safestyle have warned how this can be problematic.

Marketing director, Adam Pawson, said: "Keeping windows and doors closed is one of the easiest and most effective ways to minimise the amount of pollen entering your home.

"If you do need to open windows, try to do this overnight when the pollen levels are much lower and close them again once you wake up."

Other ways to help reduce allergies is to keep on top of cleaning, wash bedding, use a mattress protector and brush your pet's hair daily.
