Warning to anyone who owns Range Rover in Merseyside

Police have issued a warning to anyone who owns a Range Rover or Land Rover in Merseyside.

The warning comes following a series of car thefts in Southport in recent months. Merseyside Police said Land Rovers and Range Rovers are often targeted by thieves across the country, who are able to access them and start the engine without a set of car keys.

The most recent incident in Southport occurred at around 7.25am on Tuesday, September 20, when a Range Rover Sport was stolen from a driveway on Balmoral Drive. This is the third Range Rover/Land Rover car stolen in Southport in recent months and an investigation remains ongoing.

Two of the cars stolen previously were found in Ormskirk and Skelmersdale. Police are advising Land Rover and Range Rover owners to consider adding extra measures to secure their cars.

These measures include adding steering/gear lever locks, wheel clamps, pedal covers, and installing driveway posts to reduce the risk of theft.

A police spokesperson said: "In addition, we are aware from posts elsewhere on social media that there is an increase in thefts from motor vehicles in the Southport area again. Please ensure that you always remove anything of value from your vehicle, and double check that it is locked before parking up, to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of this type of crime.

"Please ensure that these are always reported via 101 or via the MERSEYSIDE POLICE CONTACT CENTRE Facebook page or https://orlo.uk/evkIl so that we can target resources on the right areas."
