Warning signs put up in Oyster Wharf, Mumbles after groups have been gathering with their takeaway drinks

Signs have been put up along a popular Swansea seaside destination reminding people to disperse instead of gathering in groups after buying takeaway food and alcohol.

Many have flocked to Mumbles and Oyster Wharf - its restaurant and retail development - to purchase food and drink from some of the popular businesses, such Bistrot Pierre which has a licence to sell takeaway alcohol and Croeso Lounge which sells food, along with the nearby supermarkets.

But instead of taking their purchases away with them, many have gathered in large groups along the sea wall and the piazza to consume them together.

Now Oyster Wharf management has erected posters warning people that the 'consumption of alcohol on the piazza and sea wall' is prohibited'.

James Morse, commercial director of Nextcolour Developments - the company behind Oyster Wharf - said: "It is to remind people and encourage people to disperse as are the regulations from Welsh Government.

"We don't want to encourage crowds, we want to remind people it is a takeaway service and to social distance still.

"The biggest nightmare is the supermarkets, as people are buying alcohol from them, it is a bigger problem the established businesses with a takeaway licence."

Mumbles isn't the only area experiencing similar issues.

In SA1, numerous empty bottles, cans and plastic cups have been left lying on the floor close to bars that had been open for takeaway drinks in Kings Road. Groups have also been spotted coming together there in numbers with little social distancing.

Under current Welsh Government coronavirus regulations, members of two separate households are allowed to meet outdoors as long as they stay local - within five miles, and maintain social distancing.
